How do you preserve memory?
In sheets :)
Yesterday marked exactly one since I joined my current firm and there’s a lot to say about my experience here. Much later, I’ll write about it in detail.
It felt so surreal, just like yesterday, I wrapped up my experience at Gokada, now I am celebrating a whole year in financial services.
While reminiscing about my work experience here, I almost fell into the trap of belittling my work by asking myself “what have you been doing here?”
I almost trivialised my efforts and the amount of work I’ve put into my job.
I almost did, Thank God for my friend who instantly rebuffed the statement and refused to allow go down that route. This is why journaling and accountability are important.
What you don’t track cannot be measured
Another friend of mine had made a suggestion to me earlier on in my career to create a spreadsheet and document every milestone and achievement I reach but I didn’t. I bought that narrative of being busy and my work speaks for me and was about to blame myself for not being deliberate about my work meanwhile I have been.
What’s the crux of this anecdote:
Document Everything!
If you can’t measure it, you cant improve it- Peter Ducker
Your successes, failures, milestones- document them, because someday, beyond using them as leverage to get access to better opportunities, it will help boost your confidence and highlight areas that need improvement. I’ve lost count of how many times I scroll to the bottom of this blog to read through the first posts just to remind myself of my why and get revitalised to write on. The human memory is tricky but documentation is consistent and will save you more than you know.
And that’s it from me people!
I hope it is not late to wish you a happy new month ;)
What happened on Monday was frightening for me and it'd hurt to lose touch with everyone here just because someone messed with Mark's servers so I have set up a makeshift telegram group for our online community pending when our platform gets ready. Here we host classes and share resources for career growth
